The horse ridden by Canadian Kathryn Robinson at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio has died. Let It Bee collapsed and died between the 13th and 14th fences during the cross-country phase of the Burnham Market International in Norfolk, Britain, on March 30, 2018.

A statement on the Equestrian Canada website dated March 30, 2018, states:

“The Canadian equestrian community was saddened today to learn of the loss of John, Gayle and Kathryn Robinson's Let It Bee at the Barefoot Estates Burnham Market International Horse Trials in Norfolk, England.

Let It Bee, a 17-year-old Westphalian gelding (Lamerto H X Baroness, by Brentano II), collapsed and died between fences on the Advanced cross country course. Kathryn (Kettering, GBR) was not injured. The event has not released any further details at this time.

Robinson and Let It Bee were members of the Canadian Eventing Teams at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, ON and the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Following their successful season in 2017, they were named to the 2018 Canadian Eventing High Performance National Squad and were strong contenders for the 2018 World Equestrian Games.

The Canadian Eventing community is dispersed over a broad geography but at this time, we are all together in thinking of Kathryn and her family in the UK as collectively we mourn the loss of this great horse.”
