Better for the Horse. Better for the Rider.

“We recommend ThinLine for horses that are back sore, horses that have saddle issues, and to help reduce the impacts that riding has on horses,” says FEI certified veterinarian Dr. Fernando Cardenas in North Carolina, USA who also breeds warmblood sport horses. “We have many young horses coming along and they’re all ridden in ThinLine saddle pads. We don’t have any back soreness.”

Cardenas starting using ThinLine saddle pads because he was so impressed by the saddle pads’ shock absorbing properties. When a golf ball is dropped on a ThinLine pad, the ball simply stays in place as its impact is absorbed by the pad. That means pressure on the horse’s back muscles from the rider and saddle are significantly decreased. Impacts dissipate laterally, meaning the rider is more stable on the horse’s back and can maintain their position more effectively. The pads are also shimmable, allowing custom fit when horses change shape or need additional back protection.

“I use the ThinLine shimmable half pad as an extension of a well-fitted saddle,” writes Holly Barnett, a Master Saddler who owns August Equine in Campbellville, Ontario.

“Given the multitude of saddles and saddle pads, selecting the correct saddle and pad combination can be a challenge,” writes Dr. Lisa Frederico, a veterinarian specializing in equine chiropractic work in Kentucky, New York, and Florida. “ThinLine carries a wide variety of quality saddle pads for English and Western disciplines.”

Those products have a unique construction. They’re created by pouring liquid into a mold, then polarizing the cells much like a magnet, forcing them to line up in one direction. Once dry, another thin layer of liquid is poured on top, and the cells are polarized in a different direction. After hundreds of layers are poured, a honeycomb matrix forms which allows heat to dissipate laterally, making ThinLine products breathable even though they feel like a soft rubber.

But the pads aren’t just for expensive performance horses.

Terry Peiper of Fit Right Saddle Solutions in Carlisle, Pennsylvania uses the pads on school horses to reduce the impact of beginner riders bouncing on their backs. She also uses a ThinLine pad on her choppy-strided Western horse to save her own back, writing, “Just one ride without my ThinLine and my back will start to ache.”

ThinLine has a pad for every horse and situation, and they’re proven to increase horse comfort while improving riding position.
